Internet Shopping
People that don’t use the internet much are still asking me, “What are the benefits of internet shopping?” Because I’m a sarcastic sort, I typically start off with, “have you seen the price of gas lately.” But really, saving gas IS a benefit of shopping for some goods over the internet. Other benefits include saving time, saving money, and saving your sanity.
Shopping at the Mall
It’s Saturday morning and I decide I want to buy a new digital camera for an upcoming over seas trip. I get up, get dressed and put on comfortable walking shoes. I then drive ten miles to Target, compare the cameras there and then drive to the mall and look at several more cameras. I then drive home, think about the purchase, and then go out the next weekend and do the same routine again. The higher the price of the product the more times I may go through this routine. I want to guarantee I get the best product at the best price.
These trips would:
- Take me at least five hours.
- Cost me at least six dollars in gas.
- Strain my patience and sanity as I dislike shopping and large crowds.
Saving Time and Money Shopping Online
If I decided to buy the same digital camera on the internet I could start the day off by surfing my home computer in my pajamas drinking coffee. Internet shopping sounds great already. I could use my favorite search engine and search on digital camera, small digital camera, and 3 mega pixel digital camera. After finding something I like, I can go to a site like overstock.com or amazon.com and do some comparison shopping. I can then have the camera of my choice shipped to my home. The process will:
- Takes about 2 hours.
- Cost me nothing for gas.
- Saves my sanity.
- Saves me about $50 from the local retail price.
If this sounds too easy or too good to be true you need to know the above example are based on my real life experience. Enjoy and save with internet shopping. I think it’s here for awhile.
